Renewal and Replacement Ensures Reliability

In its 2015 State of the Water Industry Report, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) reports that renewal and replacement of aging infrastructure is cited by utilities as one of the top five most important issues they face. Following AWWA’s best management practices, Tampa Bay Water’s rates include the full cost of providing water service, and include renewal and replacement costs as well as the cost of collecting, pumping, treating, disinfecting, storing and transporting water.

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 18, and continuing through Friday, Feb. 28, the Pinellas County drinking water supply will be limited, due to a scheduled construction project by the Pinellas County Department of Environment and Infrastructure and Tampa Bay Water, the regional water wholesaler serving Pinellas County.

Reservoir Renovation in Full Swing

Tampa Bay Water’s contractor, Kiewit Infrastructure South, began construction on the Reservoir Renovation Project in February. Kiewit is implementing a multi-step solution to make the reservoir fully functional. First, Kiewit is removing the existing erosion-control layer; second, it is adding a drain and third, Kiewit is adding thicker, stronger soil cement to the interior.
