Sometimes it would be nice to have a crystal ball to predict the future — to know whether to bring an umbrella or sunscreen. And while that’s more a job for meteorologists, Tampa Bay Water also has to understand weather patterns and many other factors to be able to accurately forecast water usage.

Like many businesses, Tampa Bay Water provides a quality product to its customers. Each year, it must budget how much of that product it believes will be needed and then make sure there is enough supply to meet that demand. Outside factors sometimes play a part in changing that demand, so Tampa Bay Water must adjust for those factors accordingly. Of course, the product we are speaking of is water, and the outside factors that affected its demand levels in 2015 were weather – including record-breaking summer rainfalls.

2014 Strategic Plan Update for Tampa Bay Water

Having a strategic plan is vital to the success of any organization, and Tampa Bay Water is no exception. Recently, the Tampa Bay Water Strategic Plan in place since 2011 was updated to better guide staff in fulfilling the agency’s mission of providing a clean, safe, reliable water supply to its six member governments and their customers. The revised plan also now aligns with the agency re-organization and includes the asset management program efforts.

Changes in population and climate fluctuations require the utility to constantly plan for the future, and this comprehensive document provides a framework for meeting the region’s future drinking water needs.
