Tampa Bay Water Receives Governmental Budgeting Award


CLEARWATER, Fla. – Tampa Bay Water’s 2016 Fiscal Year Budget was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This marks the eighth consecutive year that the agency has been given this notable honor.

The Distinguished Budget Presentation reinforces Tampa Bay Water’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. Tampa Bay Water was recognized for how well its budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device.

“We want to be transparent with how we spend the public’s money,” said Christina Sackett, Tampa Bay Water’s chief financial officer. “It’s important that our members and their citizens know that their hard-earned money goes to providing this region with clean, safe and reliable drinking water.”

Participating in the GFOA program helps Tampa Bay Water ensure transparent communications with its member governments and stakeholders regarding its budget. Other benefits of this honor include, staying informed with the latest trends in certification, and meeting the agency vision to: be a model for regional water supply in the nation; be a leader in innovation and best practices; and be a respected member of the Tampa Bay community.

The goal of the Program is to inspire government entities to be excellent examples for other governments and to create high-quality budgeting documents that not only meet the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting, but also the GFOA’s principles.
