Reservoir Siren Testing
Next scheduled siren test:
Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.

Tampa Bay Water conducts routine testing of its reservoir siren system at the C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir in south Hillsborough County. The purpose of the sirens is to notify those closest to the facility of an emergency situation that requires immediate evacuation.

In the unlikely event an emergency occurs, the sirens will be sounded in a continuous blast and you should take steps to evacuate your family immediately to higher ground. Like other major facility owners in this community, Tampa Bay Water coordinates its emergency planning closely with Hillsborough County. Emergency Management, the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue staff will be immediately activated to coordinate evacuation of low-lying areas including areas near rivers and streams.

The siren notification system will be tested on a regular basis. Monthly audible testing will be conducted on the first Wednesday of each month (unless that is a holiday) at approximately 9 a.m. The test will include three to five short blasts lasting 10-20 seconds each.

Safety has always been the top priority for this facility. The site’s geology was thoroughly investigated before the facility was designed and permitted. Additionally, monitoring equipment installed in and around the embankment and in the facility’s drainage layer provides precise information to assure safe operation and maintenance of the reservoir. And, the facility is inspected daily, weekly, monthly and annually.
