The project to expand the Tampa Bay Regional Surface Water Treatment Plant is advancing as expected, completing 60% design in September 2024. This plant has successfully operated since 2002 and can produce 90 million gallons of water per day (mgd) annual average with a maximum rated capacity of 120 mgd. It is being expanded to deliver an additional 10-12.5 mgd of drinking water when complete.
This project was chosen in 2018 as part of the Long-term Master Water Plan update and will improve the plant’s reliability and resiliency, optimize treatment processes and reserve space for future water treatment enhancements.
Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2025 and be completed by the end of 2028.
